Tom Amandes, sixth of eleven children, has come along way from his small town beginnings - all the way to Hollywood and the hearts of America to be precise. From his hometown in Richmond, Illinois with a population of 1,000, Tom developed a love for performing that would last a lifetime. Tom started as many children do, by acting around the house. A self-described 'theatre-jock', his passion took him to numerous high school theatre productions. He went on to The Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University and after graduating became an apprentice on the Chicago stage. There Tom was able to gain valuable acting experience working in numerous theatre projects in such places as the Court Theatre and the Body Politic Theatre.
Tom's screen acting career began to take off when he was cast as Eliot Ness in The Untouchables and later The Pursuit of Happiness. Tom continued to rack up credits and experience while polishing his technique over the years with numerous other projects on both the big and small screen. Eventually his path lead to Everwood. Although he was not cast in the lead role which he originally auditioned for, Amandes won over the producers, and later television audiences, as the "other" doctor of Everwood - Dr. Harold Abbott, Jr.. Tom is married to his fellow performer from The Untoucables, Nancy Everhard, who now plays Sharon Hart on Everwood. They have three children and live together in Utah, where Everwood is filmed.
