Original Air Date: 9-22-2003

Extra Ordinary Screen Cap
College application season seems to be right around the corner and certainly seems to be on everyone’s mind. Andy is concerned that Ephram needs to work harder in order to get into college. He plans out clubs to join, science leagues to be in, and SAT classes to attend. Ephram however has different plans for his future. He’s committed on attending a conservatory and has mind set on Juilliard and only Juilliard – which doesn’t require grades or test scores. His hopes, which are high at first after a Juilliard rep comes looking for him by name, are shattered when he learns that he is “a mess of bad habits” and not good enough for Juilliard. Devastated, Ephram is going to give up on his dream; accusing of Andy of not caring about Ephram’s passion for music. College applications aren’t going so well for the Abbott children either. Bright, whose collegiate hopes were pinned on a football scholarship, learns that he is ineligible to play for failing a class. Amy, still depressed over her loss, blows off her meeting with a college admissions representative. Only furthering her parents’ concern that she is losing interest in everything – food, friends, family, school. Eventually Rose is able to get through to her and Amy agrees to talk with someone about what she is going through. Bright and Dr. Abbott have a fallout over getting into college. Bright refuses to use Colin’s death as a get-in-free card for college, but Dr. Abbott tells him there’s no other way he can get in. Dr. Brown isn’t getting treated much better – the town still holds him responsible for Colin’s death and young teenage girl with a ruptured breast implant refuses to head his advice. She goes to see Dr. Abbott, who sends her right back to Dr. Brown, but only after giving Andy some encouraging advice; just what he needs to get back to his usual “my way or the highway self.” And so he takes charge of Ephram: pulling him out of SAT class and telling him that he can’t give up Juilliard – he will practice, and he will succeed.
