Judging from her on-screen expertise, one would never guess that acting
wasn't Emily's first love. Rather, she began dancing ballet at just 3 years
of age. At 12 she was accepted into the prestigious Canadian dance academy
"L'Ecole Superieure de Danse de Quebec," the official training program of
"Les Grands Ballet Canadiens" in Quebec. It was after moving with her
family to Quebec that Emily discovered she had another passion -- acting.
Inspired by watching her older sister Katie perform as a ballerina in a
film, Emily got the acting bug and wouldn't let go. Her first role was
undoubtedly far from the Emmy-quality of Everwood and significantly cheaper
-- swimming in a vat of ice cream; but acting was acting, and Emily simply
couldn't get enough. She went on to star in numerous TV series,
made-for-TV-movies, and films; including a role as a young Jackie O and a
Sundance Film Festival hit Lost and Delirious. After a stint on the short
lived WB series "Glory Days," Emily found her next series back at the WB.
This time, the producers were pursuing her. Kevin Williamson was very
impressed with Emily and insisted Greg Berlanti (creator/writer/executive
producer of "Everwood") bring her in. The choice was "instantly obvious.
We had to have her," said Berlanti.
An avid photographer and yoga enthusiast, there isn't much that doesn't interest this young star. While not on location shooting Everwood in Utah, she continues her dance training and of course makes time for friends and family. Talk About Emily VanCamp: Forum
